Neoclassical Revival in Durham NC

One of the more interesting real estate photography shoots I have ever done, 1010 Homer definitely leaves an impression on you.  A write-up from the website:  "This house is said to be the most prominent symbol of economic recovery in Forest Hills after the Great Depression. William Muirhead, who founded Muirhead Construction Company in Durham, had architect George Watts Carr modify plans from the New York Times to create this stunning Neoclassical Revival. The house has an impressive, austere facade with distinctive European influence. The hipped copper roof, intricate exterior stone trim, and the polygonal metal window above the front door are only a hint of this home’s interior magnificence. Inside, rooms open from an impressive octagonal entrance hall and stunning Modernist details are featured throughout, including a two-story glass-block window wall at the rear elevation and flanking flat-roofed wings with roof decks. With a design like no other, 1010 Homer Street is one of Durham’s architectural gems."
